Black-throated Gray
Warblers while fairly
common in San Francisco
during their short migrations
to and from Mexico are
quite uncommon during
winter here.

The lack of a black throat
(adult male) or a black
band at base of throat
(adult female) indicate this
bird is a first winter female.
Certainly one of our most
beautiful winter birds, t
he
very dark auriculars of this
Townsend's Warbler,
identifies it is an adult male.
One of the more variable
warblers in winter plumage,
the yellow throat on this
Yellow-rumped Warbler
indicates it is of the
"Audubon's" variety.
There were also a good
number of "Myrtle's"
Yellow-rumps on hand, by
our estimate about 10% of
the 100 or so we looked at.
The celebrity by virtue of
it's rarity anytime of year in
SF was this Worm-eating
Warbler.

A ground nesting warbler of
the Southeastern U.S. it
winters in Southern Mexico,
The Carribean and Central
America so this is one bird
that is very lost or a true
pioneer of it's species.
