Persistent late summer fog along the coast has given way to a beautiful fall season here in California. Slight, gentle rains that have come mostly at night have allowed for the fabulous colors of fall to linger and glow. Along the coasts and in the foothills, golden leaves of Big Leaf Maple and Sycamore trees offer an amazing contrast to the endless shades of reds from alders, oaks and under story plants such as poison oak. |

The annual Raptor Migration has not disappointed and on recent outings we have seen many Sharp Shinned, Coopers, Red- tails, and Red- shouldered Hawks. A late October bonus was the sighting of many Broad-winged Hawks sailing just overhead from a vantage point at Hawk Hill in the Marin Headlands. We have also viewed Merlins, American Kestrals, Northern Harriers along with resident Red-tailed, Red Shouldered Hawks and Osprey. Water birds are migrating to the San Francisco Bay Area. Other birds that come to the San Francisco Bay area for the winter that we have recently seen arriving include Varied Thrush, Cedar Waxwing and Golden Crowned Sparrows. |
After the first rains of the season, California and Red Belly Newts disperse in great numbers along the streams of the Coast Live Oak woodlands. |

Fall is a great time to get out for some fresh air and to enjoy something wild on an upcoming Nature Trip. |
