After the wettest winter in
decades, the warm days of
spring are triggering one of the
most dramatic wildflower
spectacles in memory.
California poppies, baby blue
eyes, buttercups, Coastal
paintbrush and lupine are
bursting out all over the Golden
State.  The songbirds are
singing in their colorful breeding
plumage and courtship displays
can be seen.  After holing up
and hunkering down during the
winter and early spring storms,
the wildlife  has emerged hungry
and is out making the most of
it...as we should be. One of the
best ways to get rid of that
"cabin fever" is to get out there
and join us on an upcoming
Nature Trip.
Spring of 2005 has really sprung
here in California

    On recent outings to
    the coast we have
    been treated to the
    sight of thousands of
    butterflies. The
    conditions have been
    ideal for some species
    but none have been
    more prolific this
    season than the
    Painted Lady.
    Many other species of
    butterfly have been
    easy to spot as well
    including the Western
    Tiger Swallowtail and
    the California Ringlet.

    Just add water....
    ....California Poppies can
be seen most months of the
    year someplace in
    California but nothing
    prepared us for the
    abundance of this brilliant
    native that we have
    witnessed this year.

    And when they are blended
in with a field of variable
    lupine.....
               just magical.
