Spring lingered right into
    summer this year here in
    California as surprising
    rains lasted well through
    June.  Along the coast
    and in high mountain
    meadows stunning
    wildflower displays
    continue to dazzle and to
    provide nectar for one of
    the largest butterfly
    populations in years.
    Western Ladies,
    Common Buckeye, Tiger
    Swallowtails, and Orange
    Sulphurs have joined
    dozens of other species.

Experience the wild side of
California this summer!

    On our forays to
    the still snow
    packed Sierra
    Nevada
    Mountains we
    have been
    checking out the
    roaring
    streams.   The
    trout and other
    fish are jumping.
    If our calendar
    didn't say
    otherwise, we
    would swear it
    was six weeks
    earlier in the
    year.

    The colorful breeding
    plumage of many birds
    is fading as they get
    down to the business of
    raising their new broods
    and quite a few are
    taking advantage of the
    extended season to
    raise a second clutch.
    Many waterfowl are now
in what is known as their
    "eclipse" plumage and
    their are little puff balls
    following closely behind
    the alert parents.

    Clear skies and warm
    days are now the norm
here in the Bay Area yet
    fog is still a regular
    summer visitor along the
    coast as the interior of
    the state warms up. On
    sunny days lizards can
    be seen sunning
    themselves on rocks.
This is a great time to
get out for some fresh air
    and enjoy something wild
    on an upcoming Nature
    Trip.
